Multidiciplinary Research

Cultural, Linguistic, Historical, and Religious Studies

This research area explores the diverse cultural expressions, languages, and historical narratives of Eastern Indonesia, while also examining the spiritual and religious landscapes that shape local identities. By studying traditional belief systems, Islam (including its Sunni and Shia expressions), Christianity, and indigenous religions, researchers can better understand the role of faith in shaping cultural continuity, conflict, and harmony in the region.

Socio-Economic and Regional Development Analysis

This focus investigates the economic conditions, livelihoods, and patterns of inequality across Eastern Indonesia, including how religious institutions and values influence local economies and social mobility. It also examines the relationship between underdevelopment, marginalization, and faith-based community resilience, offering insights into more just and inclusive development models.

Environmental and Climate Change Research

Research in this area addresses how environmental degradation and climate change affect local communities, traditional ecological knowledge, and religious interpretations of nature. Faith-based values—such as stewardship of the earth (amanah)—are explored as moral frameworks to promote environmental protection and intergenerational justice in vulnerable regions.

Local Governance, Conflict, and Political Studies

This area examines local governance structures, decentralization, political participation, and inter-group tensions, including those rooted in religious differences or historical trauma. By studying both formal governance and informal networks, including the role of religious leaders and institutions, this research provides a nuanced understanding of power, authority, and peacebuilding in plural societies.
